7 Reasons Facebook Marketplace Items Stop Selling in October

October is definitely a busy, stressful month for most people. Back to school, moving to college, getting out of the summer routine… all of these huge events contribute to why people might not be purchasing furniture during this month. Have you been wondering why your furniture isn’t selling during this month?

Check out this guide for a few reasons your flipped furniture or other items haven’t sold during the month of October:

1. People are gearing up for the holidays. If your item isn’t spooky, decorative, or festive, people may be looking more into purchasing Halloween decorations than whatever you’re listing.

2. Budgets are tight. We all know how costly the holidays can be. Field trips are costing parents money. People are saving up for Christmas gifts. 5 giant bags of name brand candy doesn’t come cheap. Don’t take it personally if it’s a struggle to sell something (especially if it’s pricey).

3. People are just busy. If you’re a parent, you get it. Even if you’re not - the relaxing summer months have come to an end and a lot of people are knee-deep in school, work, and sports.

4. The weather is unpredictable. It’s hurricane season. If your car heater is on high on the way to work, your AC may be on blast 4 hours later. It can be hard to arrange pick up of items without knowing if it will be nice weather. If your item is weather-dependent (such as patio furniture), it’s even more challenging to sell.

5. You might be selling things that aren’t popular for this time of year. Similar to my other points in this blog— think about the season. Very few people need pool chairs in October. Get ready to sell Christmas and Thanksgiving items, though. That’s about to be in high demand.

6. Your staging might not be seasonally appropriate anymore. Start incorporating some fall staging items like pumpkins, leaves, etc. Consumers love the darker, warm vibes of fall and the slow season is a great time to start re-staging your photos!

7. It may have nothing to do with the timing… check out this blog linked on things to try if your furniture isn’t selling. You may have low quality photos, out of style furniture, or overpriced work for your demographic.

If you are trying to sell and struggling - you can take a break! Creative minds need rest to maintain creativity, so don’t feel bad about taking the time to reset. Consider focusing on something less labor intensive such as updating your listings, researching products, and getting organized for the upcoming busy winter season!
