In a perfect world, I’m THAT mom. The one that always cooks amazingly healthy meals and never orders out. You can find me in my kitchen in an apron and high heels baking a pie. But this isn’t a perfect world. This is real life. And I’m going to let you in on a little secret - I don’t enjoy cooking.

Although the idea of ordering in food or eating cereal for dinner every day sounds like the perfect solution, it just isn’t feasible for a number of reasons (like health and budget!). I’ve found small appliances that actually get me a tiny bit excited to use my kitchen. And before you roll your eyes and think this is another blog promoting air fryers - think again.

1. A rice cooker. I love rice, but always found stove-top rice and five minute rice to be really inconsistent (and I’d often burn it or fail to cook it all the way). This rice cooker has been a game changer for our rice-based meals. It’s SO easy to use and it truly does make the best rice.

*Bonus tip! For rice that tastes like it came from your favorite Asian restaurant, visit your local Asian market! You can purchase a bag of sticky white rice for SUPER cheap. Read the instructions on your rice cooker and be sure to rinse the rice until the water runs clear.

2. An egg cooker. Eggs are a great source of quick protein in our house. My favorite breakfast is 8 boiled egg whites.. yep, you read that right. (Basically, I’m spending thousands a month on eggs right now.. ha.) This egg cooker makes hard boiling, soft boiling, and poaching eggs a breeze. I’m literally building a chicken coop just so I can have an endless supply of eggs to put in this thing!

3. An electric peeler. I didn’t know I needed this electric peeler until I had it. I’m pretty sure I haven’t stopped using it since I purchased it - and you would be amazed at how many things you can peel and zest. It’s honestly so much fun to use, and it can peel an entire potato in less than 10 seconds. I still have nightmares from the one time I decided to hand-peel potatoes for french fries.

4. A meat thermometer. I was always scared of undercooked meat, so this has really been a lifesaver. This thermometer is great for any type of meat.

5. Fun utensils. Fact: cooking is more exciting when you love your utensils. (You know you’re an adult when you have a favorite spatula, am I right?)

6. A slow cooker. This one has three color options and is a small size so you don’t have to take up your entire sink to clean up a meal your family probably complained about anyways.

*Don’t forget to order liners to make clean up a breeze!

All of these items are simple to use, don’t take up much counter space, and save me a ton of time (which is my favorite).
