9 Creative Ways to Hide Your Propane Tank

Do you have an unsightly propane tank cramping your outdoor vibe? No worries, I've got your back! We recently bought a home, and I knew very quickly that I was going to need to get creative to hide the giant propane tank in our yard. I'm here to share affordable and easy tricks that put my tank out of sight and out of mind. Let’s check out some creative, modern, and affordable ways to cover and hide that eyesore of a generator in your yard. This blog contains affiliate links.

Always check with your propane tank supplier to see what is safe for your particular model. Consult your gasoline supplier to see where they will need to be able to access it for refills. Do not fully enclose it as it may accumulate fumes which could lead to an explosion or fire. Do not place items directly onto the tank. I am not a professional, please do your research before covering or handling a propane tank.

1. A Waterfall

Be sure to measure your tank and plan accordingly. You may be able to get away with a smaller size waterfall. Others may need to splurge (or figure out how to build one). Depending on how your tank is angled, you may be able to hide it with just a waterfall on one end. Here are some gorgeous options on Amazon.

2. A Small Fence

The images below are linked direclty to some gorgeous privacy fences on Amazon. It’s extremely expensive to hire fences out. You’d be paying more than this for just the labor, much less the materials. You don’t have to be DIY-savvy to put these in your yard. I especially love the planter version!

2. Sleek Individual Panels

I’ve always loved these for an apartment balcony or homes close together, but they can also be used around your propane tank. There are countless options, some pricier than others. As a plus, you can purchase as many as you need if you have a larger tank size.

3. Large Planters (No Soft Ground Required)

Sleek pots with tall, bushy plants can be a great way to hide your propane tank. Bushes or short trees will do the trick. If it’s a large enough pot, you may even be able to get away with flowers. You’ll want to line them around the border of your tank. As an added bonus, these can be moved relatively easily for repairs, accessing the tank, refilling, etc. Here are some of my favorite modern options.

4. Landscaping

There is so much room for creativity here. I’d recommend visiting your local gardening center to see what survives in your zone (and what’s in stock). Don’t forget to consider your local wildlife, because you don’t want them snacking on your plants. Bare branches won’t hide the tank! The bushier the better, but remember to give a little space from your propane tank and consider root size. The roots could crack your foundation (if applicable) if the plant gets too big.

6. Planter Walls

Similar to some other options, but with a twist that allows you to grow fruits, veggies, and herbs. It adds greenery, conceals the giant metal tank, and puts food on the table. A triple win, if you ask me! Here are some options you may want to consider:

7. Firewood Pile

You can pile it up or use one of the sleek firewood holders I’m linking in the photos below. Again, this is multi-functional— it hides the tank while supplying firewood for cold winter days. No one would ever guess there’s a hidden propane tank back there.

8. Privacy Pergola

If it makes sense for your yard, this is a phenomenal option. I wouldn’t put it over/around the tank, but I’d use the shades/privacy sides to hide it behind or to the side. I LOVE having a pergola in my yard. You can pull down the shades to hide the tank and fill the pergola with seating, rug, etc. I got my pergola online, and it’s one of my favorite parts of my yard. Here are some awesome options:
